Joanna Pacitti (born October 6, 1984) is an American singer. She was a contestant on American Idol during 2009. She was eliminated because of prior relationships with producers
Theater
In 1996, at age 12, Pacitti was chosen to star in the 20th anniversary revival of the musical Annie after entering a contest sponsored by the department store Macy's. Pacitti starred in 106 performances with the national tour, obtaining mixed reviews.
Two weeks before the show was to land on Broadway, she became ill with Bronchitis. She returned to find she had been permanently replaced not by her understudy, but by Brittny Kissinger, one of the actresses playing an orphan instead. The firing generated a great deal of national publicity. Joanna appeared for interviews on ABC World News Tonight, Good Morning America, American Journal and Turning Point, an in-depth report with Barbara Walters. Her family employed a public relations strategist to elicit opportunities with various media outlets.

She recorded a song on "Legally Blonde." Pacitti sang the song "Out From Under" on the Bratz: Motion Picture Soundtrack, which was originally to be sung by Britney Spears but instead covered on her 2008 album Circus.

American Idol
Pacitti auditioned for season 8 of American Idol in Louisville, Kentucky, in an episode which aired on January 21, 2009. She passed the audition into the Hollywood round. Pacitti's past accomplishments have stirred debate about whether American Idol contestants should be strictly amateur performers. On the February 11 Idol broadcast, she was shown advancing into the top 36. That night Fox TV issued a statement that Pacitti was disqualified from the contest for "ineligible to continue." According to Star magazine, the reasoning behind this was that Pacitti has "very personal connections" to Michelle Young and Roger Widynowski, two executives that work in American Idol's 19 Entertainment Los Angeles office. In addition to living in the same apartment complex as the 19 Entertainment executives for several years, Pacitti has also allegedly called Young her "manager" and "best friend" and credited Widynowski -- a former RCA Records publicist -- with "helping me get where I am today."[citation needed] She was replaced on the program by Felicia Barton.
